Creating a New Template

To maintain a consistent equipment database, you can use Equipment Templates. This subject is highly important, and a little upfront planning can help you build a system that can do the following:

  1. Allow new users to enter new equipment without understanding equipment details such as schedules, test point setups, default masters/standards, etc.

  2. Provide an extremely fast way of entering equipment data.

  3. Ensure that all new equipment information entered into the system is done consistently.

  4. Provides the ability to accurately and quickly provide Estimates (Commercial Lab only)

The following steps will start the process of creating a new Template:

Select 'Template Editor' or 'Add/Edit' from the Home layout, then 'System-Wide' and 'Templates' to open the Template Editor. In v13, this will be launched from the Admin Panel.

To create a new template, select the New Template icon.

This will open the following dialog:

Note: To create a new blank template, ensure nothing is in the "Based Upon (Selected Below)"; otherwise, it will create a template from cloning another selected template.

Enter the Name of the new Template and click Next.

Press Next, and the following screen will appear. This screen is very similar to the Equipment layout screen. However, only equipment information that is "shared" between equipment can be entered here. Instead of a Unique I.D. for a gage, you can specify an auto-numbering scheme.

There is also an "Equipment Linked", , function that tells the user how many pieces of equipment are linked to the template and, therefore, will be affected by the changes.

Edit the template to contain the same data that new equipment created off this template would contain. The template auto-saves as you edit the template. If applicable, enter template approval and input designated sign-offs. Only approved templates are available for usage on equipment.

When you are done, close this window with the 'X' to return you to the main screen.

See the Help Guide for further information on the template functions. Template information link options and template information fields can be edited from the System-Wide Preferences and Layout Builder. |
