Data Exchange Module - Send Updated Information

The 'Send Updated Information' tab syncs information from the Single User database into the Central 3-Tier IndySoft database. Less information is synced in this 'direction' than in the 'Receive Information' tab. This is because all add/edit drop-down lists should be maintained in the central database - only updated equipment and event information needs to be synced in this operation. For more details on the synced information, see the Tables Synced help topic.

Send Updated Information Tab

For example, say you use 3-Tier IndySoft Firebird on your Company's network to maintain your central IndySoft database. In addition, you have a laptop equipped with Single User IndySoft, used for offsite calibration jobs. Before first historical usage, you would probably want to completely copy the central database on a Single User computer (so you will start with identical data). Then, before an offsite calibration trip, you use the 'Receive Information' tab to sync the GAGES, EVENTS, and other appropriate Add/Edit down lists (like Departments, Vendors, Machines, for example) for the Company that you will be accessing offsite. Once this operation is performed, you know that your Single User database has the most current information for that Company. The Single User IndySoft database is then used offsite to perform various events. Upon return to the office, you go to the 'Send Updated Information' tab in the Data Exchange Module to update the central database with the offline events and/or equipment changes.

Generally, equipment is selected for sync back into the Central database according to the 'Last Modified On' value per piece of equipment. This 'Last Modified On' field is automatically updated in IndySoft due to any equipment update or event operation (updating any gage information or performing/updating any events). To see the 'Last Modified On' value for a piece of equipment, click on the Tracking Status in the upper right-hand corner of the IndySoft main screen - the 'Last Modified On' value should be listed in the drop-down menu below.

Preview Send Update

Use this button to preview the equipment synced back into the Central database. The 'Send New Information Created Since' date to the left will be used to filter only equipment whose 'Last Modified On' date/time occurs on or after the selected date. Once you see the correct number of gages in the grid below, press the 'Send Update from Date to Left' button to begin the sync.

Send an Update From EquipmentFinder

Instead of using the 'Send New Information Created Since' date drop down and the 'Preview Send Update' and 'Send Update from Date to Left' buttons, you could sync only selected equipment using EquipmentFinder. This option is handy for more complex sync operations, where the 'Last Modified On' value will not suffice to create the desired equipment filter. When this button is pressed, EquipmentFinder appears, allowing you to create the appropriate filter. Once the filter is selected, the 'Send Update' sync will begin.

Send Update From Date To Left

Press this button to begin the 'Send Update' operation based on the equipment whose 'Last Modified On' date in the Single User database is greater than or equal to the date selected in the 'Send New Information Created Since' drop down to the left.

Once a 'Send Update' sync has begun, you can follow the sync's progress in the status bars at the bottom of the form.

This text will list the date/time of the last 'Send Update' operation performed on this Single User IndySoft workstation. If the 'Send Update' was created EquipmentFinder, then this will be listed to the right of the date/time. Otherwise, the 'Send New Information Created Since' date filter will be listed. |
