Taxonomy Manager

In Version 14.1, IndySoft introduces the concept of the Taxonomy Tree. The Taxonomy Tree can be used to have a validated hierarchical structure in order to describe a piece of equipment, an equipment template, and properties of that particular reference as well as to parental nodes. Taxonomy Tree setup can be done by System Administrators, and the creation of nodes and properties can be done by users with Profiles with that particular security privilege. As a comparison of like objects, the Taxonomy Tree is a referential lookup of information based upon the equipment's association to that particular taxonomy node, whereas Equipment Templates store properties, and upon updating the template, linked equipment is directly updated with those changes. As IndySoft customers grow and need pricing, capabilities described, tolerancing specifications per customer/globally, and entity-specific datasheets, referential lookups will become more necessary to improve the efficiency of lookups and provide a standard methodology for meeting key business needs. Those business needs, or Properties of nodes, may also be associated at any level of the tree with lookups for the Company the work is being performed for, the Vendor/Branch who is performing the work, and lastly, at a system-wide or global level. These particular properties will consistently be stored by: Taxonomy Node, Service Level, and Service Site with some variations across features in regards to the entity type (Company, Vendor/Branch, Global).

In other words, the Taxonomy Tree describes what a piece of equipment is. The properties (pricing, capability, etc.) can be stored with that Taxonomy Node or the node above it. When a contract review or event is performed, the properties or business needs will be looked up by the most specific business entity (Customer, Performing Branch, or Global) and then by the most specific node describing that equipment.
