Data Exchange Module - Receive Information

The 'Receive Information' tab syncs certain database information from the Central Database into the Single User IndySoft database. Thirty-two different types of information can be synced in any one operation. Various update options are also available per information type.

The Receiving Information Screen

Table Name

This column lists 32 different groups of information that can be synced in a 'Receive Update' operation. In general usage, all 32 operations would not be performed at once; the most common groups are listed as the top records: GAGES, EVENTS, and STUDIES. The rest of the groups list various Add/Edit selection lists, reporting setup information, security settings, work orders, etc. For detailed information on just which tables are synced per group, see the Tables Synced help topic.

Update Type

There are four possible values for records in this column. 'New Items Only' means that only records unique to the central database (not existing in the Single User database) will be synced in this 'Receive Update' operation. 'Update Only' means only records in the central and Single User databases will be synced in this 'Receive Update' operation. 'All' means that all records will be synced for the update table selected. 'None' means that this update type will be ignored in this 'Receive Update' operation (this will turn off this record in the grid, in effect).

Company

For most of the 'Table Name' records, the information is keyed in the IndySoft database by Company. This column allows you to filter the records synced by the 'Receive Update' operation to a specific Company. If 'ALL' is selected, Company does not filter records when the sync is performed. There is also an option available called '--Select Equipment.' This option will cause the Data Exchange Module to not filter simply by Company but instead to pop up a 'Select Equipment' dialog before the sync is performed, allowing the user to choose specific equipment (by Company and I.D.) that will be included in the sync.

Return Items Modified After

This option only applies to the 'GAGES' and 'STUDIES' Update Table types (this option is also not applicable if '--Select Equipment' is selected in GAGES for 'Company'). Selecting a date in this field will filter the records selected for sync according to that piece of equipment's 'Last Modified On' date/time. This 'Last Modified On' field is automatically updated in IndySoft due to any equipment update or event operation (updating any gage information or performing/updating any events). To see the 'Last Modified On' value for a piece of equipment, click on the Tracking Status in the upper right-hand corner of the IndySoft main screen - the 'Last Modified On' value should be listed in the drop-down menu below. This option is handy for quickly filtering gages so that data is only synced that has been changed since the last sync operation.

Receive Update

This button will begin the sync from the Central Database into the Single User database. The update will follow the settings specified in the grid below. Progress for the update can be seen in the bottom status bar of the form. Note that this operation might take some time, depending on the options selected. Specifically, the 'PrintBuilder Templates' and 'Security Information' options will take several minutes to perform each, depending on the size of the database and the speed of the client and server computers.

Use this drop-down to select previously saved Receive Templates quickly. Once a template is selected, its settings will be filled into the grid below, ready to be a new Receive sync. To add items to this drop-down, use the bottom described below:

Receive Templates Drop Down Menu

Use this drop-down menu to add/remove/modify items that populate the drop-down to the left.

Save Receive Information Template

Saves the settings in the grid below under the selected template name in the drop-down to the left.

Delete Receive Information Template

Permanently removes the template currently selected in the drop-down to the left.

New Receive Information Template

Adds a new template to the drop-down to the left based on the templates settings in the grid below. You will be prompted for a unique name for this new template.

Create Receive Shortcut Icon from Selected Template

Creates a shortcut icon for the template currently selected in the drop-down to the left. Shortcut icons can be used to quickly launch a future Retrieve operation based on this template without first launching the Data Exchange Module, etc.

Change Field Settings Drop Down

Use this drop-down menu to modify the settings in the grid below quickly. Several options are available that make batch changes to the grid.

Set Update Type

Changes the 'Update Type' column for all records in the grid below. Possible values are 'New Items Only,' 'Update Only,' 'All,' and 'None.'

Set Company

Changes the ' Company' column for all records in the grid below (where applicable). Possible values are 'All' or 'Specific.' If 'Specific' is selected, you will be prompted to select one company name.

Return Items Modified On/After

Changes the 'Return Items Modified After' column for all records in the grid below (where applicable). Possible values are 'Beginning of Month,' 'Beginning of Week,' and 'Today.' If you want to select a particular date, you can choose this from the 'Gages' and 'Studies' records (the only two with a 'Last Items Modified After' option).

This text shows the date and time of the last 'Receive Update' operation performed on this Single User IndySoft workstation. Also listed is the 'Return Items Modified Date' used for GAGES. If the '--Select Equipment' option was used for the sync, this will be listed instead of the 'Return Items Modified Date.' |
