Pin Gage Module

The Pin Gage Wizard Module
This wizard is used to quickly enter large pin gage sets where the +/- tolerance is consistent for each pin in the set. There are five steps involved in setting up a pin gage set. Below is an example of setting up a 90-piece pin gage set with a range of 0.1 - 1.0 inches and a tolerance of .0025 on both sides of the standard for each pin. Also, we will check the top, middle, and bottom of each pin. Note: this module can be used not only for pin gage sets, but any gage set with similar properties (such as gage block sets).

Step 1 - Specify Pin Gage Set's Tolerance and Formula

Choose the tolerance for each pin; in this example, you should choose 'Bi-Lateral' as the Tolerance Direction and '.005' in the Tolerance field. Doing so will add/subtract .0025 to both sides of the pin's standard value. If there are any formula calculations to perform when calibrating the pin gage set, you can place an IndySoft calibration formula in the Formula field; in this example, we will leave this field blank. Press the Next button to proceed to the next step.

Step 2 - Specify Pin Gage Set's Starting and Ending Points

Choose a standard for the first and last pin in the pin gage set. For this example, you should put '0.1' in the Starting Standard field and '1.0' in the Ending Standard field. In the Increment By field, enter '0.01'. Press the Next button to proceed to the next step.

Step 3 - Specify Any Suffixes To Be Added To Each Test Point

This feature is used when your company checks the accuracy of each pin more than once. For this example, we have chosen to check each pin three times, once at the top, once at the middle of the pin, and once at the bottom. To have the setup wizard emulate this situation, put the words 'TOP,' 'MIDDLE,' and 'BOTTOM' in the Suffix 1, Suffix 2, and Suffix 3 fields, respectively. Press the Next button to proceed to the next step.

Step 4 - Specify Test Point Prefix Information

When building the test point description, the standard value for each pin gage is added as a prefix. By specifying the resolution for the prefix, you can adjust how the standard is displayed. For this example, we will leave the default resolution at 6. This resolution will produce a number of .010000 as the prefix of the 1st test point. If the prefix resolution were 4, the prefix resolution would be .0100. If you don't want the test point prefix to appear, select the Exclude Prefix checkbox. Press the Next button to proceed to the last step.

Step 5 - Choose to Append or Overwrite Test Points

If the currently selected gage in IndySoft contains test points, you must choose whether to overwrite the test points or append the new ones to those currently there. Make the appropriate selection and press the Finished button to complete the setup wizard and transfer the new calibration setup to the currently selected gage in IndySoft.
